Which Is Better Filtered Tap Water Or Bottled Water

Most people drink bottled water because it tastes better, and many believe there are certain health benefits to be gained drinking bottled water over plain tap water. A lot of municipal water supplies seem to have a chemical, chlorine-like odor and taste, rural water systems are likely to be laden with minerals and have odd odors and flavors. Bottled water can eliminate those issues, but it comes at a higher cost, both on the pocketbook and the environment.

A lot of the bottled water we rob is simply filtered tap water, usually from a city water system. Some companies may filter their water more than others, but it is still really nothing more than the same tap water everyone else is using, only they are filtering it slightly and putting it in a admire bottle.

You can filter your own tap water and get cleaner and better tasting water from your faucet than you can buy in a bottle. Faucet filtration kits are actually handsome easy to install, and the money you assign by not having to buy bottled water will pay for the system in no time.

There are several different methods of filtering water; two of the most popular and effective methods are the carbon ion filtration system and the reverse osmosis filtration system. They are both effective at filtering tap water, and are both fairly inexpensive to install and maintain; so which type should you choose?

In a carbon ion filtration system, the water is filtered through a dense block of carbon to remove contaminates and impurities. The water is then run through an ion exchange which will render any chemical compounds in the water inert. This system allows essential vitamins and minerals to remain unfiltered in the water, and is quite inexpensive to operate.

In a reverse osmosis system, the water is forced through a very fine gauge mesh, and then back through the mesh. The water comes out very pure and clean, but it also has the unwanted side effect of removing all minerals from the water as well. Reverse osmosis also requires a great deal of pressure to force the water through the fine mesh, so the flow of water from the faucet is much slower than other methods.

Studies have shown that our bodies need the minerals present in water to stay healthy, so the reverse osmosis method may not be the best from a health standpoint, but the pure water is certainly better than unfiltered tap water. The reverse osmosis system is also more expensive than the carbon ion filtration system.

I personally prefer the carbon ion filtration system, but if you have well water heavy with minerals and sediments, reverse osmosis may be the better choice. Regardless of which filtration system you choose though, you will save money over buying bottled water and you will have all the new, well-kept water you need, straight from your tap.
